We chose the historical fiction genre as the theme for our July book selection. We're off to England in the late 1500s with our book selection, "Hamnet" by Maggie O'Farrell. From the publisher: "A young Latin tutor—penniless and bullied by a violent father—falls in love with an extraordinary, eccentric young woman. Agnes is a wild creature who walks her family’s land with a falcon on her glove and is known throughout the countryside for her unusual gifts as a healer, understanding plants and potions better than she does people. Once she settles with her husband on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, she becomes a fiercely protective mother and a steadfast, centrifugal force in the life of her young husband, whose career on the London stage is just taking off when his beloved young son succumbs to sudden fever."
The official Fiction Beer CO book club meets monthly--usually on the third Monday of each month. We meet at 7:00 pm in the Denver taproom. What we do: drink beers and talk about the book. Discussion questions help guide and focus the discussion; however, going off topic is encouraged.
We have a great mix of gregarious bookish folks mixed with introverted bookish folks and we happily welcome new people into the fold.
We encourage you to join our official Fiction Beer Company book club Facebook group. The group is the place to vote for our book selections, engage with other members, and get notified of exclusive events.
